Hi guys!

Ever seen one of these in the restaurants in Japan?

These are... Hmm, I'm not sure what you call them but
I guess we could call them a "Vending Machine Menu"? lol

They are commonly seen on Japanese chain restaurants such as:

松屋 (Matsuya)
やよい軒 (Yayoi-Ken)
伝説のすた丼 (Densetsu No Suta-Don)

And some other places.
A lot of ramen places uses these too.

Do you know what they are, and how to use them?

I'm sure a lot of people don't know, right?

I saw A Great Big World on a Japanese show called "Sukkiri" when they
visited Japan, and they were talking about a day they had to leave a ramen
restaurant because they didn't know how to use this vending machine.

(For those of you who doesn't know A Great Big World, they are known for this song

So yeah, I'm assuming that a lot of people don't know how to use these.

And it makes me really sad that people from around the world has
to give up on restaurants just because they don't know how to use
these vending machines!

So I'm gonna explain about this machine and how to use them.

My husband and I went to Matsuya the other day and took some pictures,
so I'll explain with the photos.

First, you put the money inside the vending machine.
Then, you press the button for the thing you want to order.

When you press the button, tickets comes out!

Get a table or a chair on the counter and give this to the server,
and you're done ordering! Your food will be served in a few minutes.

Easy, huh?

The hard part is that you need to be able to read Japanese
so you can figure out what you want, but a lot of these vending machines
has pictures above the buttons for you to look at. So if even if you can't
read Japanese, you'll have an idea of the things on the menu.

If you want to use Japanese IC card (integrated circuit card/smart card) such as
SUICA or PASMO to buy food, you have to press the button first, and put
your IC card against the IC card reader thing to get the ticket.

(My husband has the IC card system thing in this phone, so that's why
he's putting his phone against the IC card reader.)

Okay well, that's how you use these vending machines at restaurants!

I hope this was helpful for those of you who's living in Japan
or visiting Japan. :D

Thanks for reading!

Bye!

(Those of you who are interested, here are some more photos of Matsuya
right by my house!)
